What ADRE actually is.

Before the syllabus: what this exam selects for, when it started, and the problem it was created to solve.

what_it_is

What the exam is

The Assam Direct Recruitment Examination is the common written test for Class III and Class IV posts — Grade III and Grade IV — across Assam government departments. Instead of each department setting its own exam, candidates sit one paper for their qualification level: three at Grade III, two at Grade IV, all multiple choice on OMR sheets with negative marking.

when_it_started

When it started

Assam constituted State Level Recruitment Commissions for Class III and Class IV posts in 2021, and the first common examination followed in 2022. A second and much larger cycle, ADRE 2.0, was held in 2024 and drew well over ten lakh applicants.

why_it_exists

Why it exists

Every department used to recruit on its own timetable, syllabus and standard. A candidate prepared separately for each notification, vacancies sat unfilled for years, and the process was hard to hold to account. ADRE replaced all of that with one examination on a published calendar.

// overview

What this course is.

ADRE is a speed exam. The syllabus is broad but shallow, the cut-off is decided by accuracy per minute, and negative marking punishes the habits that most classroom coaching builds. This programme is designed backwards from that reality.

Grade III and Grade IV candidates share the core — general knowledge with Assam GK, social studies, English, mathematics and reasoning — then prepare for their own paper's pattern and standard. Every unit ends in a timed OMR test on the real answer sheet.

ADRE — straight answers.

What is the difference between Grade III and Grade IV preparation?

They are different papers. Grade III has three, by qualification — Bachelor's Degree (150 questions, 175 marks), HSSLC and HSLC for Drivers (150 questions, 150 marks each). Grade IV has two, HSLC and Class VIII (135 questions each), across five subjects with no published split. Both grades draw on the same core — general knowledge, social studies, English, mathematics and reasoning — which is why they share a course.

Is negative marking practised in the test series?

Yes, and it is the point of the test series. Every paper is analysed for the questions you should have skipped, which is usually where the marks went.

Are notes provided in Assamese?

Core Assam GK material is available in both English and Assamese. Quantitative and reasoning material is in English with bilingual classroom explanation.
