Height and chest (PST).
The Physical Standard Test carries no marks. The same standards apply to Constable (AB & UB) and SI (UB).

Medical standards
- Distance vision 6/6 in at least one eye and no worse than 6/9 in the other, without glasses; near vision normal.
- Not colour blind and not squint-eyed.
- Free of physical deformities and of conditions such as diabetes, heart disease, hernia, piles, respiratory disease, knock-knee and flat foot.
- Varicose veins are a temporary disqualification.
Height is measured posture-dependent on the day; an earlier recruitment's height certificate is not accepted. Candidates declared short may ask the Selection Committee for a re-measurement the same day.

Constable PET.
Comes first in the Constable recruitment, and the top 5x by PET marks go on to the written test. 40 marks for Constable (UB) and women, 60 for men applying to Constable (AB).

The minimum earns 10 marks; below it you are eliminated on the spot. Marks rise on a sliding scale up to the full-marks line. Races are timed with RFID chips under CCTV; the long jump takes the best of three attempts.
