What APSC / UPSC actually is.

What the exam is

The APSC Combined Competitive Examination selects officers for the Assam Civil Service, Assam Police Service and allied state services. UPSC's Civil Services Examination does the same nationally for the IAS, IPS and central services. Both run in three stages — an objective Prelims, a descriptive Mains, and an interview — and both are open to graduates of any discipline.

The Assam Public Service Commission was constituted in 1937 under the Government of India Act 1935, making it one of the oldest state commissions in the country. Its central counterpart began earlier still, as the Federal Public Service Commission of 1926, renamed the UPSC when the Constitution came into force in 1950.

Why it exists

Before these commissions existed, senior appointments were made at the discretion of the executive. Constituting them — and later writing them into Article 315 of the Constitution — was a deliberate move to put recruitment behind an open competitive examination that the government of the day cannot quietly influence.

What this course is.

The APSC Combined Competitive Examination rewards two things: a wide, accurate factual base and the ability to write a structured answer under time pressure. Most aspirants build the first and never build the second. This programme builds both in parallel from week one.

Assam-specific General Studies runs as its own track — history, geography, economy, polity, and current affairs of the state — because that is where the APSC paper is decided. UPSC CSE aspirants take the same core with an extended optional-subject and CSAT track.

APSC / UPSC — straight answers.

Do I need a specific graduation stream?

No. APSC CCE requires a bachelor's degree in any discipline. Streams matter only when you choose an optional subject for Mains, and we help you pick one you can actually score in — not the one that sounds impressive.

Is Assam GS covered separately?

Yes. It runs as its own track through the middle of the programme with its own notes, tests and revision cycle, because it is the highest-weight, lowest-competition part of the paper.

How is answer writing evaluated?

Weekly. You submit a script, a faculty member marks it with written feedback, and you re-attempt the same question. Structure is corrected before content, because structure is what most scripts lose marks on.

Can working professionals join?

Yes — the evening and weekend batches exist for exactly that. Plan for 20–25 hours a week outside class, and be honest with yourself about it before you enrol.
